Phuket Graceland Resort & Spa is a large resort opposite the northern part of Patong Beach in Phuket. The hotel offers particularly spacious family rooms, four swimming pools, rooms with direct pool access, a range of restaurants and leisure facilities for children and adults. Its location lets you enjoy the beach and Patong's tourist centre without being in the middle of the busiest streets. But alongside the advantages, this is a large, older property, and some wings and facilities are showing their age.

Graceland - a large resort in the heart of Patong

Patong Beach is one of Phuket's main tourist areas. Along the beach there are hotels, restaurants, shops, shopping centres, markets and nightlife.

Phuket Graceland Resort & Spa is towards the northern end of the beach, in an area that gives easy access to the centre of the action while being a little less crowded.

The hotel is laid out as a sprawling holiday complex, with room wings surrounding tropical gardens, swimming pools, paths and seating areas.

Unlike a city hotel where all the rooms are in one tower, this has a resort feel: fairly low-rise buildings, palm trees, large pools and public spaces to wander around.

The hotel has about 600 rooms and suites, and particularly suits families who want plenty of holiday facilities without being far from the tourist centre.

The location - opposite Patong Beach and within walking distance of the centre

The location is one of Graceland's biggest advantages.

The hotel is on Thaweewong Road, opposite Patong Beach. To reach the beach you have to cross the road, but it is a very short distance.

That means you can go out in the morning for a walk along the sea, sit in one of the beach restaurants and come back to the hotel without needing a taxi.

For restaurants and shops, too, the location is very convenient.

The area has supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, massage places and tourist services.

Bangla Road, the centre of Patong's nightlife, is about a 15-20 minute walk away, depending on where you start and how fast you walk.

The Jungceylon shopping centre is a slightly longer walk away.

So you can enjoy the tourist centre without sleeping right in the middle of the party area.

Is the hotel suitable if you do not want to hire a car?

Absolutely.

This is one of the hotel's significant advantages, especially for families.

You can walk to the beach, restaurants, shops and plenty of places to go out.

To visit more distant parts of Phuket, such as Kata, Karon or the Old Town, you will need transport.

But for a holiday focused on Patong and the hotel's facilities, the location is especially convenient.

The rooms - especially spacious for families

One of Graceland's standout features is the size of its rooms.

The hotel offers a range of categories, from Deluxe rooms to large family rooms, suites and rooms with pool access.

In some of the family categories the room reaches 62 sq m, including the balcony, and in certain categories as much as 69 sq m.

That is a significant advantage compared with city hotels, where a family room can be small and cramped.

Family rooms - two double beds and a seating area

The Family rooms offer about 62 sq m and have two large double beds.

They also have a fairly separate seating area, a sofa, a TV, a bathroom and a private balcony.

Some categories also have a jacuzzi bath and a small kitchenette with a fridge and microwave.

This set-up is especially convenient for families with children.

Instead of booking two small rooms or making do with a double bed and a sofa bed, you get two large beds and extra space for everyday life.

A family stay in two rooms - space and pool access

For a family stay at Phuket Graceland, two rooms were booked.

Both rooms were large and spacious, and each had two double beds and a cot.

That is a significant advantage for a family travelling with young children: there is enough room for the beds, the gear, the suitcases and getting organised every day, without the room feeling cramped.

Both rooms also had access from the room to the main pool area.

Being close to the pool was part of what made the stay comfortable, especially when travelling with children and wanting to pop back to the room during the day without walking far.

The photos of the rooms show fairly modern design, in shades of grey, white and natural wood, with large beds, an upholstered headboard and a seating area.

One of the rooms also had a lounge area with a large sofa and a coffee table.

The overall look is pleasant, clean and spacious, and particularly well suited to a family holiday.

A room with pool access - what you need to know

The hotel has several Pool Access categories, and they are not all the same.

In the Family Pool Access rooms, for example, you can step from the balcony straight into the pool. The rooms are large, with two double beds and an extra seating area.

In the Sunset wing there are Sunset Deluxe Pool Access and Sunset Grand Deluxe Pool Access rooms, some of which offer access to a separate shared pool.

It is important to distinguish between a room with a pool view and a room with direct access to the pool.

A Pool View room lets you see the pool from the balcony, but does not guarantee that you can get into it directly.

For families with children, a Pool Access room can be especially convenient, but check the safety measures and the distance between the balcony and the water, especially with toddlers.

The pools - one of Graceland's biggest advantages

Phuket Graceland has four swimming pools, spread between the hotel wings.

The pools are one of its main draws.

Some have shallow areas for children, a jacuzzi, bars in or beside the pool and sun loungers.

The main pool is surrounded by tropical gardens, trees and sun loungers, so you can spend long hours there without leaving the grounds.

The main pool

The main pool is fairly large, surrounded by guest buildings and greenery, with areas for swimming and sitting.

The main pool

The trees provide natural shade in some areas, and the parasols and sun loungers let you combine swimming and resting.

From rooms close to the pool, access is especially easy.

That is an advantage for families with children who need to go back to the room now and then to rest, change clothes or look after toddlers.

The Sunset pool and the Sky pool

In addition to the main pool, there are pool areas in the Sunset wing, including pools with more open views.

The Sky pool is one of the more interesting options if you prefer a swimming area with a view towards the sea.

That said, not all the pools are on the same level or close to every room.

Check which pool area is close to the room category you are booking.

Are there enough sun loungers?

The hotel is large and hosts many families, so at busy times the number of free sun loungers can be limited.

In some pool areas the sunbathing equipment also shows signs of wear, and at certain times the cushions and decking need better maintenance.

This does not cancel out the advantage of the large pools, but it is important to manage your expectations.

Children's facilities - a hotel that suits a family holiday

Graceland particularly suits families looking for a hotel with activities for children beyond the pool.

There is a kids' club with toys, games and activities for different ages.

The hotel also offers babysitting, booked in advance.

There are also pool areas suitable for children and open spaces within the grounds.

The main advantage is that you can spend a large part of the day at the hotel itself.

For families with young children, being able to combine the pool, a spacious room, a kids' club and meals within the grounds can make the holiday easier.

Bowling, snooker and a gym

One of the surprising things about Graceland is its range of entertainment facilities.

The hotel has an eight-lane bowling alley for hotel guests.

There is also a snooker room, as well as a gym with cardio machines and weights.

These are facilities you do not always find in Phuket resorts, especially in a hotel located in a busy urban tourist area.

The bowling can suit families with older children, couples or groups of friends looking for something else to do in the evening.

The gym lets you keep up your training routine while on holiday.

Patong Beach - just across the road

The hotel is not built directly on the sand, but it is opposite the beach, across the road.

The northern part of Patong Beach is considered fairly calm compared with the busier areas in the middle of the beach.

The strip of sand is wide, and you can sit on the beach, go for a walk or enjoy the sea, depending on the weather.

Bear in mind that Patong is an urban, touristy beach, not a secluded, quiet bay.

There are water sports, restaurants and lots of visitors.

If you are looking for a beach with especially clear water and snorkelling, you may want to visit other beaches in Phuket too.

But if you like being close to the sea and combining a pool holiday with the beach, the location is very convenient.

Restaurants and bars - plenty of choice within the hotel

Phuket Graceland offers a range of places to eat and drink within the grounds.

They include Bua Luang, a restaurant open throughout the day, Sunset, which also serves breakfast, the Sunset Beer Cafe facing the beach, the Flavor restaurant, a lobby cafe and poolside bars.

This range lets you eat at the hotel without going out, especially on days when you would rather spend time at the pool.

That said, the central location in Patong gives you plenty of other restaurants within walking distance, so there is no need to rely only on the hotel's restaurants.

Breakfast - what you should know

The hotel serves a buffet breakfast with Western and Asian dishes.

The choice usually includes eggs, pastries, fruit, hot dishes and other options.

Breakfast is served in dedicated areas, depending on the accommodation wing and how things are run.

The advantage is a range that suits an international crowd and families.

That said, because this is a large hotel, the breakfast area can get busy at peak times.

The service - one of the hotel's strong points

Service is one of the hotel's standout positives.

The hotel staff are very nice, courteous and helpful.

In online reviews, too, service is one of the areas that scores fairly highly.

The staff help arrange requests, find your way around the grounds and look after guests' needs.

That is a significant advantage for families arriving with young children who sometimes need help with gear, cots or special requests.

That said, as in other large hotels, the quality of service is not necessarily consistent across every department.

At busy times, especially at check-in and in the restaurants, there may be waits.

Cleanliness and maintenance - the hotel's main drawback

Although it is a fairly upmarket resort, Graceland is not a new hotel.

Some of the older buildings and facilities are showing their age.

You notice it in some pool areas, in the corridors, in the furniture and in rooms that have not yet been renovated.

That said, some rooms have already been refurbished and offer a more modern, pleasant design.

These differences matter especially when choosing between the hotel's wings.

In the renovated rooms you will find modern furniture, large beds, stylish bathrooms and more comfortable amenities.

In some of the older rooms, by contrast, there may be signs of wear, less up-to-date furniture or one-off maintenance issues.

So check the exact category and the condition of the room before booking.

Is the hotel quiet?

Despite being in Patong, Graceland is in an area that is a little calmer than the main nightlife streets.

That is an advantage for families who want to be close to the tourist centre but not sleep right next to the noisiest bars.

Within the grounds there are gardens, pools and areas fairly well separated from street noise.

That said, how quiet it is depends on where your room is.

Rooms facing the pool can be exposed to the voices of guests and children during the day.

Rooms close to the road may also get traffic noise.

If you are sensitive to noise, check the room's position and soundproofing in advance.

Is the hotel good for couples?

Graceland can suit couples too, especially if you prefer a resort with large pools, restaurants and a central location.

Some of the Sunset rooms offer modern design and a lovely view of the pool or the surroundings.

But the hotel's main character is family-oriented.

It is a large property, with children, groups and lots of guests.

So a couple looking for a particularly intimate, quiet boutique holiday may prefer a smaller resort.

On the other hand, a couple who like plenty of facilities, beach access and city life within walking distance can enjoy the hotel's location and services.

Is Graceland suitable for families with babies?

This is one of the types of holiday where the hotel offers clear advantages.

The family rooms have a fairly large amount of space, two double beds and the option of adding a cot if arranged in advance.

Some rooms also have a separate seating area, so parents can sit comfortably after the children have gone to sleep.

A room with pool access can make everyday life easier, because you do not have to go far from the room to reach the water.

That said, when travelling with toddlers, pay particular attention to where the balcony is and how it opens onto the pool.

In rooms where you can step straight into the water, close supervision and a check of the safety measures are essential.

Also, before booking, make sure a cot really is available and suitable for your child's age.

Who is Phuket Graceland best for?

Families with children: the large rooms, the two double beds, the pools and the children's facilities make it an easy choice.

Families with babies: cots available, spacious rooms and extra seating areas make the stay easier.

Anyone who wants a room with pool access: there are several Pool Access categories, including family rooms.

Anyone looking for a central location in Phuket: the hotel is opposite Patong Beach and within walking distance of restaurants, shops and nightlife.

Anyone who loves large resorts: four pools, a spa, a gym, bowling, a kids' club and restaurants.

Who should choose a different hotel?

Graceland is less suitable if you are looking for a small, quiet, intimate boutique hotel.

If you want a secluded beach with very few visitors, you may prefer other parts of Phuket.

And if brand-new design and consistent maintenance across every area of the hotel matter a lot to you, bear in mind that this is an older resort.

If you are looking for a hotel where every room and facility has been recently renovated, check the room category carefully and compare alternatives.

Is the hotel good value for money?

Value for money at Graceland can be especially good for families, mainly thanks to the size of the rooms.

A large room with two double beds, a seating area and a balcony can work out better value than booking two small rooms.

Being able to stay in a room with pool access also adds to the holiday experience.

But remember that room prices vary with the season, the wing, the size and the type of pool access.

Especially in the more expensive categories, check whether the room has been renovated and exactly what is included in the price.

The difference between a Pool View and a Pool Access room is not always worth it, especially if you plan to spend most of the day away from the hotel.

For families who spend a lot of time at the pool, however, direct access can be a significant advantage.

The bottom line - should you book Phuket Graceland?

Phuket Graceland Resort & Spa is an especially good choice for families looking for a large, central, comfortable hotel in Phuket.

The location opposite Patong Beach, the spacious family rooms, the four swimming pools and the range of leisure facilities make for a holiday that combines the sea, the pool, restaurants and nights out.

Its standout advantages are the size of the family rooms, the two double beds and the option of a cot, easy access to the main pool and the excellent location.

The service is also a strong point, with courteous, pleasant staff.

On the other hand, bear in mind that this is a large, older resort, and not all rooms and facilities are maintained to the same standard.

For families who want a large room, plenty of facilities and a convenient location in Patong, Graceland is definitely a hotel worth considering. Choosing the right room category is the key to a successful holiday.
