Koh Tao Nightlife
Parties on Sairee's two inner streets, a dinner that is a night out in itself, and a cabaret show we have not stopped talking about. Three evenings we would plan in advance.

Koh Tao is best known for its beaches, dive sites and laid-back atmosphere, but after sunset a completely different side of the island emerges. Bars on the sand turn into dance floors, fire shows light up the beach, music drifts out of restaurants and beach clubs, and parties take place in bars and hotel pool areas too.
The heart of Koh Tao nightlife is Sairee Beach, where you can start the evening with dinner facing the sea, carry on to a cabaret show and finish at a party on the beach. Unlike the huge parties on Koh Phangan, nights out on Koh Tao are spread across relatively small venues, and getting from one to the next is quick and easy.
Sairee Beach - the centre of Koh Tao nightlife
By day, Sairee is a long beach lined with restaurants, cafés, dive centres and hotels. Towards sunset the tables on the sand start to fill, the music gets louder and the mood gradually changes.
Along the beach there are bars and restaurants where you can sit right by the sea, order dinner or a cocktail and watch the sun go down. As the evening goes on, some places swap their background music for something more upbeat, and the seating areas turn into spots for partying and dancing.
One of Sairee's big advantages is that you do not have to plan the evening in advance. You can walk along the beach, stop at a bar that looks interesting and move on to another depending on the music and the vibe.
Lotus Bar - parties and fire shows on the beach
Lotus Beach Bar is one of the longest-running and best-known spots in Sairee's nightlife. The bar sits right on the beach and combines seating facing the sea, music, fire shows and parties.
In the evening you can enjoy the beach atmosphere and the music, and later on the place draws travellers who come to dance and stay out until the small hours.
The fire shows are a central part of the experience: performers spin flaming props and pull off tricks in front of the crowd, with the sea right behind them. Special party nights are held here from time to time too, and the programme changes with the events.
It is a particularly good fit if you are looking for the atmosphere people associate with Thai nightlife: music, dancing, travellers from all over the world, all a few steps from the sea.
Queen's Cabaret - Koh Tao's cabaret show
Not every night out on Koh Tao has to be a party. One of the island's best-known attractions is The Queen's Cabaret, a drag and cabaret show in Sairee, where performers in colourful costumes take the stage with music, dancing, lip-syncing and humour.
The show combines costume changes, choreography and interaction with the audience. Some numbers are light and funny, and in others audience members are invited to join in.

It is a night out that suits couples and groups of friends alike, and it is easy to combine with dinner and a round of the bars in Sairee.
According to island guides and visitor reviews, the show usually starts at around 21:30, and the most recently reported price is about 300 baht (about $9 / €8) including one drink. Check the show times and entry terms before you go. All the details are in our full review of the cabaret show.
Beach parties - dancing barefoot on the sand
Beach parties are an integral part of Koh Tao nightlife. At some bars in Sairee the music starts as early as sunset, and later in the evening more travellers join in and the atmosphere becomes livelier.
The experience is different from an indoor club: there is no need to dress up, the beach itself is the meeting place, and you can drift between the seating areas, the dance floors and the fire shows.
The island also hosts organised beach parties and bigger music events, which do not necessarily happen every night. Check the local events calendar to see where there is a party during your visit.
Parties in bars, hotels and pool venues
Nightlife on Koh Tao is not limited to the beach itself. Bars attached to hotels, guesthouses and beach clubs also host parties and music events.
One of the best-known spots is AC Beach Bar in the Sairee area, which holds pool parties. Some events start in the afternoon, so you can combine time in the pool with music and a party atmosphere.
Another is Fishbowl Beach Bar, known for its social atmosphere, music and nights out.
If you are after a bigger party, you can also find events away from the beach, including jungle parties such as Escobar, about a five-minute drive from Sairee towards Hin Wong.
It is important to tell the difference between a bar inside a hotel and a party that is open to the public. Not every hotel pool is a party venue, and not every event lets in guests from outside. Check in advance whether the event is open to the public and what the entry terms are.
Restaurants and bars - a quieter evening
Even if you are not looking to dance, Koh Tao has plenty of pleasant ways to spend an evening.
Along Sairee there are Thai and international restaurants, bars with tables on the sand and places where you can sit and talk facing the sea. The mix of dinner, music and a walk along the beach makes Sairee an easy area for a calmer evening, too.
In the Mae Haad area, near the pier, the atmosphere is usually quieter. You can find small restaurants and bars that suit dinner and drinks without heading into the party hub.
Chalok Baan Kao, in the south of the island, also offers a more relaxed night out, with restaurants and bars by the bay.
Three evenings we would plan in advance
Evening 1: Hotpot & BBQ. A place on the main street that leads away from the busy local centre, on the right-hand side with your back to the tourist area. It is packed all night, and rightly so. Every table gets a grill and a pot, and you go round the fridges choosing: seafood, meat, cheeses, sushi to heat up, desserts. Waiters come round pouring wine. It is a sociable, noisy and fun experience - an evening that is a night out in itself. (This was the case in March 2025; the selection may change.)
Evening 2: the cabaret show. The cabaret show - an amazing performance, and for one of us, as a make-up artist, there was something professional to watch there too.
Evening 3: no plan. The two streets that lead inland from the tourist strip are full of pubs that turn into parties at night. Wander around, go into a bar, sit down for sushi, and see where the evening takes you.
How to plan an evening on Koh Tao
If you want to combine several of the kinds of night out the island offers, an easy evening route starts in Sairee around sunset.
You can head to one of the restaurants on the beach, enjoy dinner facing the sea, go on to the Queen's Cabaret show and from there walk along the beach towards Lotus and the other bars.
If you want an evening centred on parties, you can start later and find out what events are on that night, while if you prefer a calm atmosphere, dinner and a cocktail by the sea may be all you need.
What to know before you go out
- No two evenings are the same: shows, pool parties and special events vary by day and season.
- Most of the nightlife is concentrated in Sairee: it is the easiest area to walk between bars and restaurants.
- Staying close to the bars can be noisy: bear this in mind when choosing a hotel. Where to stay on Koh Tao.
- Getting around: if you are drinking, do not ride a scooter back to your hotel. The island has steep roads, so it is better to walk where possible or take a taxi.
- Diving the next day: a night of drinking and little sleep does not go well with a morning dive.
For details of the changing parties and events, you can use the Koh Tao events calendar.
Koh Tao nightlife - not just an island for divers
Koh Tao manages to combine two very different kinds of holiday. During the day you can enjoy the beaches, snorkelling and diving, and towards evening switch to a night out by the sea, a cabaret show or a party on the sand.
The big advantage is the variety: you can choose a quiet evening at a restaurant, go to a show, sit in a bar with music or keep dancing until late. Sairee has most of the options, but outside it there are also places suited to a calmer night out.
