ARKbar Beach Club & Resort is one of Koh Samui's best-known party hotels, set right on Chaweng Beach, with a party pool, DJs, fire shows and restaurants on site. If you want a holiday with music, people and nightlife a few steps from your room, you will find an experience very different from a calm Thai resort. But if you want to go to bed early, enjoy some quiet or come on a family holiday with children, this is probably not the hotel for you.
Chaweng is one of Koh Samui's liveliest areas, but even along this beach the hotels differ a lot. You will find romantic, relatively quiet resorts, family hotels and places aimed mainly at young people and nightlife lovers.
ARKbar clearly belongs to the last group.
This is a hotel built around going out. The main pool doubles as a party venue, music plays through the day and evening, and at night the beach turns into a party zone with DJs and fire shows.
During our visit to Chaweng in March 2025 we walked through the hotel. The main pool was already full of people at lunchtime, and the atmosphere was lively and sociable.
The hotel is right in the middle of Chaweng Beach, on Koh Samui's east coast.
It is one of the most central locations for anyone coming to the island for the nightlife. The hotel is on the beachfront, and walking out towards the main road takes you into an area full of restaurants, bars, shops, massage parlours and businesses for tourists.
Accessibility is one of its big advantages.
Unlike the more secluded hotels in Chaweng Noi, where an evening out may mean a taxi, here you can walk to plenty of places.
The Central Samui shopping centre is also in central Chaweng, a fairly short walk from the hotel.
Koh Samui airport is about ten minutes' drive away, depending on traffic.
What sets ARKbar apart from other hotels in Chaweng is that the party is right inside the hotel.
You don't need to leave to look for a beach party. The pool, the bar, the beach and the area facing the sea are all part of the compound you are staying in.
The advantage is obvious: if you plan to stay out late, you can get back to your room without booking a taxi.
But that is also the big drawback.
You can't expect total quiet at a hotel whose party venue is a central part of its identity.
The main pool is one of the places most associated with ARKbar.

Chaweng Beach has fairly comfortable swimming areas, but conditions vary along the beach and with the season.
Around ARKbar there are stretches where the water is fairly shallow, and sometimes there are rocks on the seabed. Check sea conditions when you are there and don't assume every part of the beach is equally good for swimming.
During the parties, when the music and activity are concentrated on the beach, the experience is very different from swimming at a quiet beach.
