Amari Koh Samui
Also in Chaweng, a Thai-style resort with several pools - about 7,500 THB (about $223 / €198) in our search
A long-standing Thai resort in the heart of Chaweng - gardens, bungalows and two pools, next to ARKbar. A great location, but not for early nights.
Chaweng Garden Beach Resort is a Thai-style resort right in the middle of Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui. It combines tropical gardens, bungalows and family rooms, two swimming pools and a beachfront restaurant, all a few steps from the island's shopping, restaurants and nightlife. Its big advantage is the location: you can walk straight out onto the beach, or head the other way to Chaweng's main tourist street. The main drawback is how close it is to ARKbar and the nightlife spots, which can be noisy until late at night.
In March 2025, during our time on Koh Samui, we spent a day getting to know the hotels along Chaweng Beach. One of the places we visited was Chaweng Garden Beach Resort.
What stood out for us was its Thai character. Unlike modern hotels with large blocks, here the rooms and bungalows sit among gardens and tropical greenery, and the paths lead to the pools and the beachfront restaurant.
The seating area facing the sea stood out in particular, with tables on the sand and the feel of a classic Thai beach holiday.
The hotel is at 162/8 Moo 2, in the centre of Chaweng Beach on the east side of Koh Samui.
This is one of the most convenient areas of the island if you want to walk to restaurants, shops and clubs.
Unlike hotels in Chaweng Noi or in secluded bays, here you don't need to book a taxi every time you want to go out for dinner or do some shopping.
Just outside the hotel is Chaweng Beach Road, the area's main street, lined with Thai and international restaurants, bars, massage places, shops and travel agents.
One of the most important things to know before you book is that the hotel is next to ARKbar, one of the busiest and best-known beach clubs on Koh Samui.
ARKbar runs pool parties, DJs, fire shows and music through the day and evening.
If you're coming to Koh Samui to go out, this can be a real plus. You can go to a party and walk back to your room without dealing with taxis.
But if you're after quiet nights, being this close can be a problem.
In some rooms the music is clearly audible, and in others the noise is less noticeable. That's why where your room sits within the grounds matters so much.
Chaweng Garden Beach Resort isn't a new hotel trying to recreate a Thai atmosphere through design.

According to the official website, the land has belonged to a local family for three generations, and the resort opened in 1990.
The family still presents the place as a local-style guesthouse, with an emphasis on personal service and a homely sense of hospitality.
The design combines low-rise buildings, gardens, shaded paths and bungalows.
It's a style that particularly suits people who like the character of older Thai hotels and aren't necessarily looking for minimalist architecture, a grand lobby or rooms in a uniform international style.
On the other hand, the hotel's age means it's worth paying attention to how well the rooms are maintained.
In some reviews guests praise the cleanliness and the atmosphere, while others mention that some of the furniture, bedding and fittings look dated.
One of the hotel's main advantages is direct access to Chaweng Beach.
From the pools and the restaurant area you're on the sand in a few steps.
It's a beach with pale sand, palm trees and an open view over the Gulf of Thailand. Thanks to the central location you can also walk along the beach and move between different restaurants and beach clubs.
The hotel has a seating area with sun loungers, as well as trees that give natural shade.
The beach itself is public, so there's a flow of walkers and guests from other hotels.
In central Chaweng there are stretches of beach that are fairly comfortable for swimming, but conditions change with the tide, the wind and the season.
At some times of year the sea is calm and pleasant, while during the north-east monsoon the waves can be higher, and on some days the strip of sand shrinks because of the tide.
Reviews from December 2025 include comments that the water came up close to the beach area and left little free sand to sit on.
So it's worth checking beach conditions for the season you're planning to visit, rather than assuming the photos reflect the state of the sea all year round.
The main advantage is the location.
You can enjoy a lovely beach, swim when conditions allow, order a drink and sit on the sand, while being very close to Chaweng's tourist centre.
But if you're looking for a secluded beach or total quiet, this isn't the best fit.
The hotel has two swimming pools, and each offers a slightly different experience.
This pool is next to Sue's Ocean Restaurant, close to the beach.

It suits people who want to mix swimming in the pool, lounging on a sunbed and going into the sea.
The atmosphere here is more about the beach holiday, with a sea view and a restaurant close by.
Monkey Pool is in the Superior room area and runs between some of the hotel buildings, a bit like a canal.

Next to it is the Monkey Pool Bar, where you can order drinks and light meals.
This pool is especially appealing for families who want to spend a good part of the day within the grounds.
Guest reviews are generally positive about the pools, though some mention sun loungers and equipment that need replacing.
One of the things that sets Chaweng Garden Beach Resort apart is its wide range of room types.
You'll find fairly simple double rooms, family rooms, garden bungalows and suites with a private pool.
The differences in price, size and location can be significant.
Standard King Garden View rooms are about 33 sq m and sleep two.
There are also versions for three guests and for families with children.
These options suit people who want to enjoy the hotel's location and facilities without paying for the most expensive room category.
Superior rooms start at about 29 sq m, and some have a pool view.
There are also larger family categories, including a Superior Family Pool View room of about 58 sq m.
This can be an interesting option for families who want to stay close to the pool.
That said, being near the pool can also mean more activity and noise during the day.
The Premier category includes double rooms, rooms for three and family rooms.
The Premier Family Garden View room is about 61 sq m and sleeps four.
There's also a Premier suite with a sea view, of about 46 sq m.
If you like the Thai style of hospitality, the bungalows are one of the most interesting options.
The Garden Bungalow offers about 38 sq m, and the Grand Deluxe Bungalow is larger, at about 57 sq m.
There's also a bungalow with a private plunge pool of about 45 sq m.
The bungalows blend into the tropical gardens and can feel more intimate than a room in a regular building.
At the top end of the accommodation is the Baipho Beachfront Pool Villa.
It's a villa of about 93 sq m, with a private pool and a location by the beach.
There's also the Shino Suite with a private plunge pool, of about 55 sq m.
These options suit couples who want more privacy and are happy to invest in the room itself.
At this hotel we would give a lot of weight to where the room is.
If you're sensitive to noise, it's important to ask for a room as far as possible from the side facing ARKbar and from the main road.
Some reviews note that inner bungalows and rooms further from the beach club were relatively quiet.
But other guests reported hearing music in more distant areas too.
There's no way to guarantee a completely quiet room, so it's worth contacting the hotel in advance and asking which category and location would suit your needs.
Yes. Unlike party hotels that restrict guests' ages, Chaweng Garden offers a range of family rooms and welcomes families with children.
The main advantages are rooms for three and four guests, two pools, a beachfront restaurant and the option of walking out to restaurants and shops.
Reviews from families speak well of the service, the beach access and how comfortable the family rooms are.
The main activities for children are the pools, the beach and family time within the grounds.
So the hotel can suit independent families who prefer to go out and explore Chaweng, but less so those looking for a resort with a big kids' club and organised supervision through the day.
This is the most important question.
Some families describe children sleeping well and garden rooms being quiet.
Others reported loud music from ARKbar until late at night.
On top of that, planes landing at and taking off from Samui airport pass over the area, and the noise can be heard in some rooms.
If you're travelling with young children who go to sleep early, we would look into this carefully before booking.
The hotel has Sue's Ocean Restaurant, a beachfront restaurant, along with a beach bar and a pool.

The restaurant is named after Madame Sue, a central figure in the hotel's family story.
It serves Thai and international dishes throughout the day, including breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Its main advantage is the location facing the sea.
You can sit in the shade of the beach trees and enjoy the food and the view without leaving the grounds.
On some evenings the hotel offers fish and seafood dinners on the sand, depending on the weather.
Guest reviews repeatedly compliment the breakfast and the meals at the restaurant, alongside occasional comments that prices are relatively high compared with restaurants outside the hotel.
Next to the restaurant there's a beach bar, and in the inner pool area there's the Monkey Pool Bar.
These are handy if you want to spend a day at the hotel without going out to a restaurant every time.
The location in central Chaweng is one of the biggest advantages of Chaweng Garden Beach Resort.
You can walk to plenty of restaurants, shops and places to go out.
ARKbar is right next to the beach area and offers pool parties, DJs and fire shows.
If you love nightlife, this is a chance to enjoy the parties without needing transport.
You can spend the evening at the club and walk back to your room.
On the other hand, being this close is also the main source of the noise some guests report.
The Central Samui shopping centre is close to the hotel, in the heart of Chaweng.
The mall has fashion shops, cafes, restaurants and air-conditioned spaces.
It's a handy option on a particularly hot day or when you want a break from the beach.
The Green Mango area is one of Chaweng's best-known nightlife hubs.
It's surrounded by bars and clubs, and suits people who want to keep going after dinner.
The advantage of staying in central Chaweng is that you can get there without booking a taxi.
There are many Thai and international restaurants close by.
Andaman Thai Food and Seafood serves Thai food and seafood, while Green Bird is a well-known option for Thai dishes at fairly affordable prices.
Near the nightlife area there's also Khaw Glong Thai Cuisine, which focuses on Thai cooking.
If you want a different kind of food, the area also has Indian and Italian restaurants, cafes and burger places.
This is one reason we wouldn't necessarily book a package here that includes all meals. The location lets you enjoy a wide choice of restaurants outside the hotel.
A party hotel with a beach pool, DJs and fire shows.
It particularly suits younger travellers and nightlife lovers.
Chaweng Garden offers a greener, calmer setting during the day, but it isn't shielded from the noise coming from the party club.
A modern hotel with a sociable, young feel, a pool by the beach and shared spaces.
It suits travellers who want to meet people and stay somewhere lively.
A resort with tropical gardens, pools and Thai-style buildings, further along the Chaweng strip.
It suits people looking for a more indulgent stay who still want to be close to the nightlife centre.
A modern luxury boutique hotel, known for its distinctive design and its red pool.
It offers a completely different design experience from Chaweng Garden.
Guest reviews paint a mostly positive picture, but also a few drawbacks that come up again and again.
The main strengths are the location, the staff, the tropical gardens, the beach and the pools.
Guests who stayed in 2026 spoke well of the friendly service, the family rooms and being able to walk out of the hotel to almost everything central Chaweng has to offer.
Some also say the hotel feels relatively quiet despite its central location.
But it's important not to ignore the negative reviews.
This is the most significant drawback.
Some guests say the music from ARKbar could be heard until late at night, and the plane noise bothered them too.
On the other hand, some guests who stayed in bungalows and inner rooms reported that they hardly heard the parties.
The gap between these experiences shows how important it is to choose a room in the right spot.
Some reviews mention clean, well-maintained rooms, while others refer to old furniture, weak lighting or equipment that needs refreshing.
Because the hotel offers so many room categories, it's worth checking reviews for the specific room type you plan to book.
At busy times, some guests report struggling to find free sun loungers.
If you're planning a long pool holiday, you may prefer a larger resort with more spacious swimming areas.
In an Agoda search we ran for a sample of Koh Samui hotels for 8-14 February 2027, the hotel came up at about 7,400 THB (about $220 / €196) a night, including taxes and fees as shown at the time of the search.
This is a sample price, not a fixed rate.
On the site's price scale, the hotel falls into the "mid-range to indulgent" category - about 3,800-8,700 THB (about $113-259 / €100-230) per night.
The actual price varies with the season, availability, room type and booking conditions.
In our view, before booking it's worth comparing a Standard room, a Superior room and a garden bungalow.
If the price difference is small, an inner bungalow may be better than a room closer to the road or the beach club.
It's important to check directly with the hotel whether you can get a room in a relatively quiet area, but don't rely on a promise of complete silence.
Couples who want a central location: the hotel suits people who want to combine beach, restaurants, shopping and nightlife without depending on taxis.
Families with older children: the family rooms, the pools and the beach access can be very convenient. Bear in mind the possible noise at night.
Travellers who like Thai-style hotels: the low-rise buildings, the gardens and the bungalows give the hotel a local, tropical character.
Nightlife lovers: being close to ARKbar and the Green Mango area is a real advantage.
The hotel is less suited to people looking for total quiet, travellers who are particularly sensitive to noise, and families with toddlers who need to sleep early in a quiet setting.
It's also not the first choice for a luxury holiday with large spa facilities, several upscale restaurants and rooms with cutting-edge design.
What interests us about Chaweng Garden is the contrast between its two sides.
On one hand, it sits right in the heart of Chaweng's nightlife, next to one of the best-known party clubs on Koh Samui.
On the other, inside the grounds there are tropical gardens, shaded paths, bungalows and pools, with an atmosphere completely different from the busy street outside.
It's a combination that can work very well for travellers who want to enjoy everything Chaweng has to offer.
The Thai style of the grounds and the seating area on the beach stood out for us, but in our eyes choosing this hotel depends mainly on how sensitive you are to noise.
If you want a lovely beach, restaurants, shopping and nightlife within walking distance, Chaweng Garden is a very interesting option. If you're looking for a quiet romantic holiday and early nights, we would prefer a hotel in a calmer part of Koh Samui.
The hotel is right in the centre of Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui, with direct beach access and close to the restaurant, shopping and nightlife areas.
Yes. The hotel is next to the ARKbar party complex, so in some rooms you can hear music at night.
Yes. It has family rooms, two pools and direct beach access. That said, it's important to factor in possible noise from the beach clubs.
The main activities for families are the pools, the beach and spending time in the area. If you're looking for a kids' club with organised activities, check with the hotel.
Yes. There are two pools: the Beach Pool by the beach and the Monkey Pool in the Superior room area.
The hotel is on Chaweng Beach, which has pleasant swimming areas. Sea conditions change with the tide, the weather and the season.
Yes. The shopping centre is close to the hotel, in the heart of Chaweng.
Quite possibly. Some guests report noise from the beach clubs and the planes. Others say inner rooms were relatively quiet.
In a sample Agoda search we ran, the price came up at about 7,400 THB (about $220 / €196) a night, including taxes and fees. The price varies by date and room type.
ARKbar mainly suits people who want to sleep inside a party complex. Chaweng Garden offers a resort experience with gardens, family rooms and pools, but is still affected by being close to the party area.
Chaweng Garden suits people looking for a very central location, a Thai style and a choice of family rooms. Buri Rasa is a more intimate boutique hotel, currently for guests aged 16 and over.
Same level of comfort and price - hotels we stayed at
