Banana Fan Sea Resort is a four-star resort in the south of Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui, with tropical gardens, an infinity pool overlooking the sea and direct access to one of the loveliest stretches of the beach. Its big advantage is the combination of a relaxed atmosphere inside the hotel and a central location, within walking distance of restaurants, shops and places to go out. It particularly suits couples and families who want an indulgent beach holiday but don't want to depend on a taxi every time they leave the hotel.

In March 2025, during our time on Koh Samui, we spent a day wandering along Chaweng Beach and getting to know the hotels on it.

Banana Fan Sea was one of the hotels whose public areas we saw. What stood out for us in particular was the long pool stretching towards the sea, and the way the tropical greenery, the resort buildings and the open beach come together.

Where is Banana Fan Sea Resort?

The hotel is at the southern end of the central part of Chaweng Beach, on the east coast of Koh Samui.

This location is one of its biggest advantages.

Chaweng is the busiest tourist area on Koh Samui, with a long strip of beach, restaurants, bars, shops, massage places and shopping centres.

But not every part of Chaweng offers the same experience. The busy nightlife spots are in the central area, while the southern part has hotels better suited to a relaxed beach holiday.

Banana Fan Sea combines both worlds.

On the beach side you get a tropical resort with a pool, a restaurant and well-kept lawns. On the other side you step out onto Chaweng Beach Road, with plenty of businesses and services for tourists.

If you want to combine an indulgent holiday with the option of walking out in the evening, this is a significant advantage.

Do you need a car to stay at the hotel?

If you're planning to spend most of your time in Chaweng, not necessarily.

You can walk to a range of restaurants, shops, massage places and nightlife.

For trips to other beaches, to Bophut or to attractions further afield on Koh Samui, you'll need transport.

But unlike secluded resorts on hillsides or in remote bays, Banana Fan Sea lets you enjoy the immediate area without booking a taxi every time you go out.

What is the beach like at Banana Fan Sea?

One of the hotel's main advantages is its location right on Chaweng Beach.

The stretch where the resort sits has pale, soft sand, a fairly wide strip of beach and an open view of the sea.

Compared with hotels in north Chaweng, where the sea is very shallow in places, the southern part of the beach may suit people who want to actually swim, not just sit facing the sea.

That said, sea conditions change with the season, the wind and the tide, so don't assume swimming conditions will be the same every day.

Guest reviews describe the beach in front of Banana Fan Sea as one of the hotel's standout strengths. The cleanliness, the sand and the direct access from the pool to the beach come up again and again in positive impressions.

Pool facing the sea, or the beach?

At Banana Fan Sea you don't really have to choose.

The main pool is next to the beach, so you can easily move between the fresh water of the pool and the sea.

This is one of the reasons the hotel suits both families and couples: you can enjoy the pool area, sit on a sun lounger and carry on to the beach without leaving the grounds.

The infinity pool - one of the resort's highlights

The infinity pool at Banana Fan Sea faces straight out to sea and blends into the tropical gardens.

It's one of the hotel's design strengths, and also what stood out for us during our visit.

The pool isn't cut off from the beach or built on an upper level. It's part of the main leisure area, with sun loungers and a drinks bar.

In the pool itself there's Kevin's Bar, where you can order drinks without getting out of the water.

Next to the main pool there's also an area for children.

According to the hotel's website, the pool is open 07:00-19:30.

Guest reviews are generally positive about the pool and the view, but some visitors note that it isn't especially large for the number of guests at busy times.

So if you're looking for a huge pool with several separate swimming areas, it's worth comparing larger resorts on Koh Samui as well.

The rooms at Banana Fan Sea - what should you book?

One of Banana Fan Sea's advantages is its wide choice of room categories.

The hotel offers standard double rooms, upgraded rooms, suites and beachfront villas with a jacuzzi or a private pool.

The differences between them are significant, so it's important to check the exact room category before booking.

Standard and Superior rooms

The Standard room is the more basic option, about 33 sq m, with a double bed and a garden view.

Superior rooms are larger, about 48 sq m, and some categories also have a balcony.

These rooms suit people who prefer to spend most of the day on the beach and by the pool and don't need a lavish villa.

Deluxe and Premium rooms

Deluxe Garden and Grand Deluxe rooms are about 38 sq m, and some let you choose between a double bed and two beds.

The Premium room offers about 44 sq m and a garden view.

These options suit people who want an upgraded room without reaching private-villa prices.

Beachfront villas

At the more luxurious end of the hotel are the villas facing the beach.

Options include a one-bedroom villa with a jacuzzi, about 64 sq m, and a villa with a private pool of about 125 sq m.

For families there are larger options, including two-bedroom villas with a private pool.

These rooms offer a completely different holiday experience from a standard garden room.

Our advice is not to rely on the hotel's main photos. If you're booking a standard room, look at the photos of that room, not of the most expensive villa. The difference in price and experience can be very significant.

Restaurants and food at the hotel

Banana Fan Sea has the Baitong restaurant, which faces the beach and serves Thai and international food.

The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with open-air seating overlooking the sea.

The breakfast gets a lot of positive feedback, mainly for the choice, the fresh food and the seating facing the beach.

The menu has Thai dishes alongside international ones, which makes it a handy option for families with different food preferences too.

The hotel also offers private dinners on the beach, including romantic dinners for couples.

During the week there are sometimes special food evenings, with barbecue dinners and shows. The programme changes, so it's worth checking the events calendar when you arrive.

What about gluten-free food?

Guest reviews from 2026 record some gluten-free options at breakfast, including bread and pastries offered on request.

However, this doesn't confirm that the kitchen is fully suited to people with coeliac disease.

If you avoid gluten, check the ingredients, sauces and preparation methods in advance, especially if you need to avoid cross-contamination.

Recommended restaurants near Banana Fan Sea

One of the hotel's big advantages is that you don't have to eat at the resort restaurant every evening.

Along Chaweng Beach Road there are Thai, Indian, Italian and international restaurants.

A few of the options close by:

Khaw Glong Thai Restaurant

A well-known Thai restaurant in Chaweng, serving local dishes in a fairly simple setting.

It suits people who want to get out of the hotel restaurant and enjoy more traditional Thai cooking.

The Hungry Wolf

A restaurant serving burgers, pizzas and Western dishes, among other things.

It can be a handy option for families or for anyone who wants a change after a few days of Thai food.

Malee Kitchen Chaweng

A restaurant serving Thai and Asian food, with dishes based on vegetables, meat, fish and seafood.

Tandoori Palace

An Indian restaurant in the Chaweng area, for anyone looking for another option beyond the hotel's Thai and international food.

Restaurant locations can change, so it's worth checking the walking route before you head out.

Shopping near the hotel - including a well-known swimwear shop

Shopping lovers will find another advantage in Banana Fan Sea's location.

The hotel is in an area with clothes shops, beachwear, toiletries, accessories and souvenirs.

Amazonas Beachwear - swimwear and beachwear

One of the best-known swimwear shops in Chaweng is Amazonas Beachwear.

It's a boutique specialising in bikinis, swimwear, beachwear and fashion accessories.

The shop also sells pieces by local designers and brands made in Thailand.

According to Koh Samui shopping guides, the shop has had several locations along Chaweng Beach Road, including a larger store called Amazonas 1974.

It's an interesting option if you're looking for designer swimwear and don't want to settle for the usual beach stalls.

It's important to check which branch is currently open and the opening hours before you go.

Central Samui - the main shopping centre

The Central Samui shopping centre is in the Chaweng area and has fashion shops, cafes, restaurants and international brands.

You can walk there from the hotel, but bear in mind that the centre is further along Chaweng's shopping strip, not right at the resort entrance.

Which hotels are near Banana Fan Sea?

South Chaweng has several well-known hotels, each offering a slightly different style of stay.

OZO Chaweng Samui

A modern hotel with a large swimming pool, direct beach access and contemporary rooms.

It particularly suits people looking for a comfortable beach hotel who are less focused on a luxury villa experience.

Buri Rasa Village Samui

A boutique hotel with Thai design, pavilions, gardens and a seating area facing the sea.

It also has a bar with tables on the sand, facing the sea.

The hotel suits couples looking for a holiday with a more intimate atmosphere.

The Library

A design-led boutique hotel in Chaweng, known for its modern architecture and its distinctive red pool.

It suits people looking for a hotel with an unusual design language.

These hotels are spread along different parts of the southern and central beach strip. Some are very close to each other, but it's worth checking the exact walking distance rather than assuming they're all equally close.

Is Banana Fan Sea suitable for families with children?

Yes. The hotel can suit families who want a beach holiday with comfortable facilities and restaurants and shops close by.

The main advantages for families are the direct beach access, the children's pool area, the range of rooms and the option of booking a two-bedroom villa.

The hotel also advertises babysitting services, but check availability, ages and cost in advance.

Unlike large family resorts, Banana Fan Sea doesn't focus on a water park or a big children's activity area.

So it better suits families who want to enjoy the beach, the pool and the immediate area, and less so those looking for a hotel with a large kids' club and an all-day activity programme.

What do guests say about Banana Fan Sea?

Guest reviews paint a very positive picture of the resort.

The main strengths that come up are the personal service, the cleanliness, the well-kept gardens, the breakfast and the location right on the beach.

The combination of a quiet setting inside the hotel and being able to walk out into Chaweng is also appreciated.

Alongside this, there are also drawbacks worth knowing about.

The pool isn't one of the largest on Koh Samui, and at busy times the sunbathing area can feel crowded.

Some guests note that restaurant and drink prices are fairly high compared with options outside the hotel.

Now and then there are also comments about noise from the surrounding area or from events at the hotel, so if you're sensitive to noise, ask for a room in a relatively quiet spot.

Keep in mind that the experience can vary with the season, the room category and how full the hotel is.

How much does Banana Fan Sea Resort cost?

In an Agoda search we ran as part of comparing Koh Samui hotel prices, Banana Fan Sea came up at about 10,900 THB (about $324 / €288) a night, including taxes and fees as shown at the time of the check.

This is a sample price, not a fixed rate.

It also doesn't necessarily refer to a villa with a jacuzzi or a private pool.

On the site's price scale, the hotel falls into the "luxury" category - about 9,200 THB and up (about $274 / €243 and up) per night.

Before booking, it's worth comparing prices on Agoda, Booking and the hotel's official website, checking the same room type and the same booking conditions.

If you're planning to come between January and March, we recommend checking availability several months ahead, especially for villas and popular room categories.

Who is Banana Fan Sea Resort for?

Couples who want a lovely beach and a central location

The hotel particularly suits couples who want to combine an indulgent tropical resort with the option of going out to restaurants and bars in the evening.

It offers a calmer beach experience than the party hotels in central Chaweng, such as ARKbar, without giving up being close to the nightlife areas.

Families with children

The pool, the beach, the family services and being close to shops and restaurants make it a convenient option.

It's worth checking the room type and the family accommodation options before booking.

Who is the hotel less suited to?

Banana Fan Sea is less suited to people looking for a budget hotel, a completely secluded resort, or a large complex with water slides and children's activities.

If you're planning to spend most of your holiday exploring the island and only come back to the room to sleep, you may prefer a cheaper hotel.

Is it worth booking a room at Banana Fan Sea Resort?

Banana Fan Sea's big strength is the balance between a pleasant, relatively quiet resort and a central, convenient location.

On one hand there's a lovely infinity pool facing the sea, tropical gardens, a beachfront restaurant and rooms at different levels of comfort.

On the other, you can walk out of the hotel and find restaurants, shops, massage places and nightlife within walking distance.

In our eyes, it's a particularly interesting choice for anyone who wants an indulgent beach holiday in Chaweng but doesn't want to sleep inside a party complex or depend on a car every evening.

If you're looking for a hotel on a lovely beach, with good service and the chance to enjoy both the hotel and central Chaweng, Banana Fan Sea is definitely worth a look.
