Ark Bar Beach Resort
Also in central Chaweng, a beachfront party hotel - about 3,700 THB (about $110 / €98) in our search
A social hotel on Chaweng Beach - a different party every day, games and competitions, and a team that really invests in its guests.
Lub d Koh Samui Chaweng Beach is a social hotel on Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui, combining private rooms and dorms with pools, a beach club, parties and organised activities almost every day. But what sets it apart is not just the music or the parties, it is the effort that goes into creating a social experience for guests: games, competitions, theme nights, decorations and an active team trying to bring travellers together. It particularly suits young people, independent travellers and groups of friends who want to meet people and have fun, not just find a room to sleep in.
In March 2025, during our visit to Chaweng Beach, we also stopped by Lub d. Of the young, lively hotels we walked through, it was one of the places that impressed us most.
Not because of luxury or lavish rooms, but because of something else entirely: the effort they put into their guests.
We saw a hotel that doesn't settle for playing music by the pool. The team organises activities, competitions and parties with changing themes, decorates the place with balloons and puts real effort into the atmosphere and the small details. The staff were friendly, energetic and very involved in the activities.
What impressed us was the feeling that someone was genuinely thinking about how to get guests to have fun, join in and get to know each other.
We were at the pool during a party and saw it for ourselves - and we loved it. We talked to the hotel's marketing manager, who told us there is a different party every day. While we were chatting, a few guests joined us, and they seemed to be on very friendly terms with the staff.
The hotel is right on Chaweng Beach, in the central, lively part of Koh Samui's east coast.
It is one of the most convenient locations on the island if you are coming for the nightlife, restaurants, shops and beach clubs.
On one side, the hotel faces straight onto the sea. From the pool and the beach club you can step down onto the sand without leaving the property.
On the other, step out onto the street and you are in Chaweng's tourist area, with bars, restaurants, shops, massage parlours and services for travellers.
The Central Samui shopping centre is also in the area, within a fairly comfortable walk.
This location particularly suits anyone not planning to rent a car or a scooter. You can spend much of your holiday at the hotel and around it, and only book transport when you want to head out to beaches or attractions further away.
Lub d's defining feature is its focus on guests' social life.
Many hotels on Koh Samui have a bar, a pool and music. At Lub d, social activity is a central part of the concept.
During our visit we were impressed by how much effort the team put into the events: decorations, balloons, competitions, games and different theme parties.
It felt like a place where the staff don't just serve drinks or hand over a room key, but are actively involved in creating the experience.
In our view, this effort is Lub d's biggest strength.
If you are travelling solo or arrive on Koh Samui without knowing anyone, it can sometimes feel hard to connect with others. At a hotel like this, the activities create natural opportunities to meet, talk and get to know other travellers.
Groups of friends can enjoy the atmosphere too, because there is something different to do every day.
The hotel publishes a social activity schedule that is updated through the week.
Activities on the official programme include:
For example, the events schedule lists a Mai Tai Mixer on Mondays, a Pub Crawl on Tuesdays, Lub d Mania on Wednesdays, a quiz night on Fridays and a pool party on Saturdays.

The schedule may change, and not every event takes place on every date or is included in the room rate.
For us, what is interesting is not just the number of events, but the way the hotel builds an atmosphere around them.
The team uses design and decorations to match each activity's theme, mixes in games and competitions and creates ways to join in even if you didn't arrive with a big group.
The result is a place that feels like a temporary community of travellers.
You can of course choose not to take part and stay by the pool or on the beach, but if you want a social life, you don't need to look for it outside the hotel.
Lub d has two swimming pools and a Beach Club area facing straight onto the sea.

The main pool combines a seating area facing the beach, music and a drinks bar. It is also used for the hotel's events and social activities.
There is also a swim-up bar, areas for games and shared seating, and an open view of the sea.
One of the interesting things about the place is that you can move between the pool, the restaurant and the beach almost without leaving the main social area.
We wouldn't choose Lub d just for a relaxing pool holiday.
The pool is part of the social scene, and at times there are parties, competitions and music there.
If you like lively places, you may love this atmosphere.
But if you want to settle down with a book by the pool and mainly hear the sound of the waves, you will probably prefer a different hotel.
The hotel is right on Chaweng Beach, with direct access to the sand from the pool and the restaurant.

It is a central, popular beach, with pale sand, sea views and plenty going on throughout the day.
Lub d's advantage is that you can combine time at the beach club with stepping straight into the sea.
You can sit facing the beach, order food and drinks and join in whatever is happening on site.
Swimming conditions on Chaweng Beach vary with the spot, the tide and the weather.
Central Chaweng has some fairly comfortable stretches of beach, but some guests describe shallow water at certain times, while others enjoyed being able to get into the sea right in front of the hotel.
So don't assume the sea is good for swimming at every hour and in every season.
If the beach is your main reason for coming to Koh Samui, check swimming conditions for your travel dates too.
One of the interesting things about Lub d is the mix of private rooms and shared dorms.
It isn't a basic hostel in the traditional sense, but it isn't a classic luxury resort either.
It tries to offer the comfort of a hotel together with the social life of a hostel.
According to the official website, there are 108 private rooms and 16 dorms.
The private rooms suit couples or travellers who want to enjoy Lub d's social atmosphere but prefer privacy at night.
Categories include rooms with a double bed or two single beds, some with a balcony and a sea view.
The Duo Seaview rooms, for example, are about 24 m², with a private bathroom and a balcony looking out towards the sea and the pool.
The rooms are not especially large, but they offer a private, comfortable place to sleep in a lively setting.
The Quad category sleeps up to four guests, with a mix of regular beds and a bunk bed, depending on the room layout.
It is an interesting option for a group of friends who want to sleep together and enjoy the hotel's activities.
For solo travellers who want to save money and meet people, Lub d offers eight-bed dorms.
Each bed has a privacy curtain, a reading light, charging points and a personal locker.
The bathrooms are shared and close to the sleeping areas.
There are also female-only dorm options, and in some categories you can book a whole dorm for a group.
Many guest reviews praise the cleanliness, the beds and the upkeep of both the shared and private rooms.
Travellers who stayed in the dorms speak well of the privacy curtains, the bathrooms and the sense that the place is better organised than a basic hostel.
That said, there are also critical reviews about value for money, compact rooms and noise from other guests.
Our advice is to first choose the type of stay that suits you: a bed in a shared dorm, a private double or a room for a group of friends.
This is a particularly important question at a hotel with so much social activity.
The pool, the beach club and the shared areas can be busy and noisy through the day and evening.
Some guest reviews describe noise from music, from people coming back from nights out and from the room corridors.
But there are also reviews from guests who said the rooms were fairly quiet despite the lively atmosphere outside.
So there is no single answer that applies to every room.
If you are very sensitive to noise, you can ask for a room away from the social areas, but don't assume that complete silence can be guaranteed at a hotel like this.
In our view, Lub d suits people for whom the activities and the social atmosphere are part of the reason for choosing the hotel in the first place.
The Lub d Beach Club on site serves food and drinks throughout the day facing the sea.

The menu combines Thai and international dishes, pizzas, grills and food that works as a light meal by the pool.
One of the interesting things about the hotel is its late breakfast policy.
According to the official website, breakfast is served from 07:00 to 18:00.
It is a particularly good fit for the hotel's crowd: if you were out until the early hours, you don't have to get up early to catch breakfast.
That said, check what is included in the rate you booked, as different rooms may be sold with or without breakfast.
Guest reviews include positive impressions of the food and drinks, alongside comments about prices that are high compared with local restaurants.
The hotel's location in central Chaweng puts a wide choice of places to go within walking distance.
ARKbar is one of the best-known beach clubs in the area, with pool parties, DJs and fire shows.
It suits anyone mainly looking for a big party and a Beach Club atmosphere.
The main difference from Lub d is that at Lub d the focus is not just on partying but also on social events, games and competitions designed to bring guests together.
The Central Samui shopping centre is in central Chaweng, within walking distance of the hotel.
It has fashion shops, cafés and restaurants, and is particularly handy for the hours when you want a break from the beach.
One of Chaweng's nightlife hubs, with bars and clubs.
If you want to carry on the evening outside the hotel, you can get there and back on foot, depending on where you go.
Around Lub d there are Thai restaurants, pizzerias, cafés, massage parlours and clothes shops.
It is an area that particularly suits anyone who doesn't want to depend on taxis throughout the day.
A party hotel built around its beach pool and day-and-night partying.
It particularly suits anyone looking for music, parties and a central location.
A Thai-style resort with tropical gardens, bungalows and two pools.
It is better suited to anyone looking for a traditional resort experience, although it too is very close to the party area.
A resort with gardens, pools, a spa and a kids' club.
It is better suited to families and travellers who want extensive hotel facilities alongside a central location.
Guest reviews are mostly very positive, especially about the social atmosphere and the staff.
Many guests praise the cleanliness, the beachfront location and the chance to meet other travellers through the activities.
Independent travellers describe it as one of the hotels where it is particularly easy to connect with people, and the staff get a lot of praise for their friendliness and involvement in the events.
This matches what we felt on our visit very closely.
That said, there are drawbacks too.
Some guests say the hotel is expensive compared with other hostels in Thailand. Others say the atmosphere was too young for them, or that the activities and music didn't suit the holiday they wanted.
It is also worth remembering that the social scene depends on who is staying at the hotel that week. Not every evening will have the same atmosphere.
In an Agoda search we ran for our sample of Koh Samui hotels for 8-14 February 2027, Lub d came up at about 4,400 THB (about $131 / €116) a night, including taxes and fees as displayed at the time.
This is a sample price, not a fixed booking rate.
On the site's price levels, it falls in the "mid-range to indulgent" tier - about 3,800-8,700 THB (about $113-259 / €100-230) per night.
It is important to distinguish between the price of a private room and the price of a dorm bed. These are two completely different types of accommodation, and should not be compared as if they were the same category.
The dorms may offer a cheaper option for solo travellers, while private rooms with a sea view will usually cost more.
Independent travellers: one of the big advantages is the chance to meet people through organised activities and games.
Groups of friends: a great hotel if you want to go out, join the parties and enjoy a young atmosphere.
Couples who enjoy a social scene: you can book a private room and still take part in the shared activities.
Anyone not renting a car: the central Chaweng location puts restaurants, shopping and nightlife within walking distance.
If you are looking for a quiet holiday, an intimate romantic atmosphere or a luxury resort with very personal in-room service, we would choose a different hotel.
For families with young children, too, it isn't the natural choice in our view, even though some rooms can sleep several guests.
The main activities focus on socialising, games and going out, not on a kids' club or a family programme.
If we came to Koh Samui to meet people, go to parties and be surrounded by a young, social atmosphere, Lub d would be one of the first hotels we would look at.
What impressed us most was the way they treat their guests and the effort they put into the activities.
This is not a hotel that simply puts in a pool, turns on the music and waits for people to have fun. It invests in creating the atmosphere, organising the competitions, decorating the place and getting the staff involved.
In our view, it is a different kind of stay, and it can mean a lot to anyone coming on holiday alone or with friends.
The bottom line: Lub d is a great choice if you are looking for a social, lively hotel that really puts in the effort, in central Chaweng. It is less suited to anyone after quiet and privacy, but for the right crowd it offers much more than just a room facing the sea.
The hotel is in central Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui, with direct beach access and close to restaurants, shops and nightlife.
Both. It offers private rooms alongside beds in shared dorms, combining hotel facilities with the social atmosphere of a hostel.
The hotel runs a daily activity programme that includes parties, games, competitions and social get-togethers. Not every day is a party, and the events schedule may change.
