Banana Fan Sea Resort
The next-door neighbour, a resort with an infinity pool facing the sea - about 10,900 THB (about $324 / €288) in our search
A boutique hotel in the style of a Thai village on Chaweng Beach - pavilions, gardens and a restaurant on the sand, for adults aged 16 and over.
Buri Rasa Village Samui is a luxury boutique hotel for adults aged 16 and over, set right on Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui. The hotel combines Thai village-style buildings, tropical gardens, spacious rooms, a small swimming pool and a beach club with a restaurant, live music and fire shows. Its big advantage is that you can enjoy an intimate couples' holiday on the beach and, at the same time, walk out to Chaweng's restaurants, shops and nightlife.
In March 2025, during our time on Koh Samui, we spent a day getting to know the hotels along Chaweng Beach. One of the places that stood out for us in particular was Buri Rasa Village.
From the moment you enter the grounds you can tell this hotel has a different character from the large, modern resorts. The low buildings, the walkways, the greenery and the Thai design give it the feel of a small tropical village.
What stood out for us most was the seating area on the sand, with tables and chairs facing the sea. Unlike hotels where the restaurant is separated from the beach, here the sand and the sea are part of the experience.
The hotel is in the south-central part of Chaweng Beach, on the east coast of Koh Samui.
The address is 11/2 Moo 2, Chaweng Beach.
This location is considered one of the hotel's significant advantages, because it lets you enjoy a lovely beach and a resort atmosphere without being far from the island's tourist centre.
Chaweng is one of the busiest areas on Koh Samui, with a long strip of beach, restaurants, bars, shops, massage places and shopping centres.
But there's a big difference between staying at a party hotel like ARKbar and staying at Buri Rasa.
At ARKbar the parties and the music are a central part of the experience. At Buri Rasa the emphasis is on a more intimate, relaxed stay, even though it does hold music events and fire shows.
Definitely, if you're planning to spend most of your time in the Chaweng area.
Behind the hotel is the area's main road, with restaurants, shops, pharmacies, massage places and services for tourists.
You can go out for dinner or shopping without booking a taxi.
If you want to visit Bophut, Lamai or more distant beaches, you'll of course need transport.
Being able to enjoy both the beach and the commercial centre is, in our eyes, one of the hotel's most important advantages.
The name Village suits the character of the place very well.

Buri Rasa isn't built like a tall city hotel. Instead, the buildings are set within tropical gardens, with paths leading from the rooms towards the pool and the beach.
The design is influenced by traditional Thai style, with wooden details, verandas and lush greenery.
It's a choice that particularly suits people who come to Thailand wanting to feel the local character in the hotel too, not only on trips outside it.
What stood out for us on our visit was that the hotel doesn't feel like a huge, impersonal complex. The atmosphere is more intimate, and the distances between the rooms, the restaurant and the beach are fairly short.
Guest reviews also keep coming back to its boutique character and personal service.
Still, bear in mind that the intimate character also comes with smaller facilities than at Koh Samui's big resorts.
The hotel is right on Chaweng Beach, with direct access from the pool deck and the restaurant to the sand.
It's one of the nicer parts of the beach strip, with pale sand and an open expanse facing the Gulf of Thailand.
In guest reviews the beach comes up again and again as one of the hotel's most significant strengths.

Guests describe being able to sit on the sun loungers, enjoy the view and move from the pool to the sea in a few steps.
In the south-central part of Chaweng, swimming conditions can be more comfortable than in the very shallow parts at the north of the beach.
But as on every beach on Koh Samui, sea conditions change with the season, the tide and the wind.
When the sea is calm you can enjoy a swim, while in the rainy seasons or on days when the sea is rough it's important to follow local safety guidance.
We recommend not choosing a hotel based on photos of the sea alone, but also checking the season you're planning to visit.
Chaweng is a public, popular beach, so there's a flow of walkers along the sand near Buri Rasa too.
Even so, the hotel sets aside a seating area and sun loungers for its guests.
In reviews from the past year, guests say they found sun loungers fairly easily, and that the hotel staff make a point of keeping the guest areas for guests.
That's an advantage if you want to enjoy the beach without hunting for a spot to sit every morning.
Buri Rasa has a swimming pool designed in a black-and-white style, a few steps from the beach.

According to the official website, the pool is about 14 metres long and 5.2 metres wide, and about 1.2 metres deep.
The advertised opening hours are 07:00-19:00.
It isn't a huge pool like those at bigger hotels in Chaweng.
Its strengths are the convenient location and a design that fits the boutique-hotel atmosphere.
If you prefer to take a dip, swim a little and go back to your sun lounger, it can be quite enough.
On the other hand, if you're looking for a big pool complex with several areas, a children's pool or water slides, you'll find better options at larger family hotels.
Some guest reviews also mention the size of the pool as a drawback relative to the price of the stay.
One thing worth knowing before you book is the range of room categories.
The hotel offers boutique-style rooms with private balconies or terraces, garden views and, in some categories, a sea view or a private pool.
According to the official website, the rooms have a Nespresso coffee machine, a TV with streaming options, a Bluetooth sound system, a rain shower and Wi-Fi.
A room of about 40 sq m.
This is one of the hotel's more basic room categories, but it's still a fairly comfortable size for a couple.
It suits people who plan to spend most of their time on the beach and by the pool and prefer to spend less on the room itself.
A room of about 45 sq m, with a design that fits the hotel's Thai village atmosphere.
An interesting option for couples who want a spacious, pleasant room without going for the very top luxury category.
A larger room, of about 60 sq m.
It suits people who like to spend time in the room and on the balcony too, and want a greater sense of space.
Two categories offering about 80 sq m, with a private pool.
These options particularly suit an indulgent couples' holiday or a honeymoon.
The sea-facing categories suit people who put a lot of weight on the view and being close to the beach.
The Boutique Ocean Escape offers about 45 sq m, while the Boutique Ocean Retreat is larger, at about 90 sq m.
The largest category on the current room list, at about 90 sq m.
It can suit people who prefer more space and the feel of a suite.
At a hotel like this, where the beach and the public areas are a significant part of the experience, we're not sure we would pay the top price for a room with a private pool.
For a couple planning to spend the day on the beach, a standard boutique room can also be an excellent choice.
On the other hand, for a honeymoon or a holiday devoted mainly to rest and privacy, a room with a private pool can justify the extra spend.
It's also important to check whether the room faces the street, the garden or the sea. There are reviews about noise in the rooms closer to the road.
On our visit, the restaurant and the seating area on the sand stood out in particular.

Instead of an enclosed dining room, Buri Rasa offers a restaurant and beach club where the sea is part of the experience.
The Beach Club serves Thai dishes, fish and seafood, international dishes and other options through the day.
Breakfast combines Thai and Western options, with a buffet and dishes cooked to order.
According to the hotel's website, breakfast is served from 07:00 to 10:30, and the beach club is open from 11:00 to 23:00.
Many reviews praise the breakfast, especially being able to order fresh dishes and the atmosphere facing the beach.
Some guests speak well of the coffee, the quality of the service and not having to queue at an omelette station.
That said, there are also more critical reviews about the choice relative to the hotel's price.
It's worth checking whether breakfast is included in the rate you booked.
Yes. One of the interesting things about Buri Rasa is that it isn't a completely quiet hotel.
The beach club hosts live music, saxophone performances, food evenings and fire shows, according to the events calendar.
The difference compared with ARKbar is the style.
Instead of big pool parties with loud music, Buri Rasa offers a calmer, more polished night out.
Still, if you're sensitive to noise, bear in mind that events are held on the hotel grounds, and don't assume every evening will be completely quiet.
The hotel offers massages through Nam Thai Herbal Massage.
The treatment area is in an open setting facing the sea, and combines Thai massage with other treatments.
According to the official website, the opening hours are 08:00-17:00.
There's also a small training area with Technogym equipment and a digital training system.
It's a solution if you want to stay active on holiday, but don't expect a big gym like those at international resorts.
The hotel also helps arrange tours and activities, such as boat trips, diving and visits to attractions around Koh Samui.
Important to know: the hotel is currently for guests aged 16 and over.
This policy appeared on the official website following a change in the hotel's style of hospitality.
So it isn't suitable for families with young children, even if older reviews describe family holidays at the hotel.
The change sharpens its current positioning as a boutique hotel for couples and adults looking for a relaxed, fairly intimate holiday.
If you're travelling with young children, it's worth looking at other hotels in Chaweng, such as Amari Koh Samui or OZO Chaweng, depending on your children's ages and the facilities you need.
One of the hotel's main advantages is being able to walk out into Chaweng's tourist centre.
The Central Samui shopping centre is in central Chaweng, within walking distance of the hotel.
The mall has fashion shops, cafes, restaurants and air-conditioned spaces, which can be especially useful on hot or rainy days.
Step out of the hotel and you're in an area with Thai and international restaurants, cafes, bars and massage places.
This is one of the reasons south-central Chaweng is such a convenient place to stay.
You can enjoy dinner outside the hotel without booking a taxi, and walk back to your room.
From the hotel you can walk along the beach and visit beach clubs and other hotels.
Central Chaweng has livelier places to go out, including ARKbar and Lub d.
If you want to enjoy the nightlife, you can head there in the evening and come back to a calmer hotel.
South-central Chaweng has several well-known hotels, and comparing them is particularly interesting.
A resort with tropical gardens, an infinity pool facing the sea and a range of rooms and villas.
Banana Fan Sea suits people looking for an indulgent beach holiday, including families with children.
The main difference is the style of stay: Banana Fan Sea is a more family-oriented resort, while Buri Rasa is currently aimed at guests aged 16 and over.
A modern hotel with a large pool facing the sea, contemporary rooms and direct beach access.
It suits people who prefer a modern style to traditional Thai design.
A boutique hotel known for its modern architecture and its distinctive red pool.
It suits people looking for a more design-led, minimalist stay.
A resort in central Chaweng, with gardens, Thai-style buildings and beach access.
It suits people who want to be very close to the nightlife of central Chaweng.
Reviews of Buri Rasa are mostly very positive.
The strengths that come up are the personal service, the cleanliness, the breakfast, the beach and the feel of a small boutique hotel.
In reviews from 2026, guests particularly praise the staff, the personal attention and being able to enjoy a lovely beach without being far from the shops and restaurants.
Some guests describe the hotel as one of the best places they've stayed on Koh Samui, mainly because of the atmosphere and the service.
But there are also drawbacks worth knowing about.
This is one of the hotel's clear drawbacks.
If you're expecting a particularly large pool you may be disappointed, especially if you're used to bigger resorts.
Some guests note that the hotel is expensive relative to the size of the grounds and the facilities.
Value for money depends largely on whether you appreciate an intimate boutique hotel and personal service, or prefer more facilities and pools.
Despite the relaxed atmosphere, the hotel is in central Chaweng.
Some rooms may be exposed to street noise, so it's worth asking where your room is before booking.
Alongside plenty of praise, there are occasional reviews describing less successful service or a breakfast that didn't meet expectations.
These don't necessarily represent most guests' experience, but they're worth taking into account at a hotel in a high price range.
In an Agoda search we ran for a sample of Koh Samui hotels for 8-14 February 2027, Buri Rasa came up at about 12,200 THB (about $363 / €322) a night, including taxes and fees as shown at the time of the search.
This is a sample price, not a fixed price or a current booking offer.
On the site's price scale, the hotel falls into the "luxury" category - about 9,200 THB and up (about $274 / €243 and up) per night.
Bear in mind that the price varies with the dates, the room type, availability and the cancellation terms.
At Buri Rasa in particular, where there are significant differences between the standard boutique rooms and rooms with private pools or a sea view, it's worth comparing the price of the exact room category.
This is one of the uses the hotel suits best.
The Thai atmosphere, the gardens, the beach and the chance to have dinner on the sand create a romantic stay.
Rooms with private pools can particularly suit a honeymoon.
The policy limiting stays to guests aged 16 and over contributes to an atmosphere aimed mainly at adults.
It's a suitable option for people who want to enjoy a beach holiday without play areas and activities for young children.
If you prefer Thai design, tropical gardens and a boutique experience to a large modern hotel, Buri Rasa may suit you very well.
The location lets you enjoy Chaweng's restaurants, shops and evenings out without paying for transport every time you want to leave the hotel.
The hotel is less suited to families with young children, travellers on a limited budget and people looking for a large resort with lots of pools and extensive leisure facilities.
Of the hotels we went through during our visit to Chaweng Beach, Buri Rasa was one of the places whose style stood out for us in particular.
We saw a Thai atmosphere, low buildings and a seating area on the sand. The hotel feels more intimate than the big resorts, and at the same time it's in a location that lets you enjoy everything Chaweng has to offer.
Its main strengths are the beach, the service guests report, the spacious rooms and the distinctive design.
The drawbacks are the fairly small pool and the high price, which won't necessarily suit people looking for a wide range of facilities.
In our eyes, Buri Rasa is a particularly interesting choice for couples looking for a romantic boutique holiday on Chaweng Beach, with personal service and a Thai atmosphere, without giving up the option of going out to restaurants and shops in the evening.
The hotel is in south-central Chaweng Beach on Koh Samui, with direct beach access and close to restaurants, shops and nightlife.
The hotel is currently for guests aged 16 and over, so it isn't suitable for families with young children.
Yes. The hotel has a pool facing the beach, about 14 metres long. It's a fairly intimate pool, not a big pool complex.
The hotel is on a lovely part of Chaweng Beach, with direct access to the sea. Swimming conditions change with the season, the wind and the state of the sea.
Yes. The hotel is in a central part of Chaweng, surrounded by a range of restaurants, cafes, shops and massage places.
Yes. The Thai design, the intimate atmosphere, the restaurant on the beach and the rooms with private pools can suit a romantic holiday very well.
The hotel is considered fairly relaxed, but it's in central Chaweng and also holds music events. Rooms close to the street may be exposed to noise.
In a sample Agoda search we ran, the price came up at about 12,200 THB (about $363 / €322) a night, including taxes and fees. The price may vary with the date and the room type.
Yes. The hotel offers massages through Nam Thai Herbal Massage, in an open area facing the sea.
Buri Rasa particularly suits couples looking for an adults' boutique hotel with Thai design and an intimate atmosphere. Banana Fan Sea also suits families and offers a resort with a larger infinity pool and a wider range of rooms.
